How the Tattoo Font Generator Works

Each style maps the letters A-Z onto a different Unicode range. Old English and blackletter come from the mathematical Fraktur block, the scripts from the mathematical script block, and the decorated styles wrap those letters in symbols. Nothing here is a font file, so what you copy is the styling itself — it survives being pasted anywhere that accepts Unicode text.

Characters a style has no glyph for are left alone rather than dropped, so numbers, dates and punctuation keep their shape while the letters change.

Copy-Paste Tattoo Fonts vs a Real Tattoo Font

These are two different things and it is worth knowing which one you need before you take anything to a studio.

The practical use is the middle step. Copy a style, send it to your artist, and it communicates the letterform far better than the word “gothic” does. They will then draw it or set it in a licensed typeface for the stencil.

Old English Tattoo Font and Blackletter

An old english tattoo font is the letterform most people mean by “tattoo font” — dense vertical strokes, sharp terminals, the look used on chest pieces and forearm script for decades. Two versions are here: Old English (𝔉𝔬𝔯𝔢𝔳𝔢𝔯) and the heavier Blackletter Bold (𝕱𝖔𝖗𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖗).

There is one thing to check. Old English has no character of its own for C, H, I, R or Z — Unicode had already encoded those as ℭ ℌ ℑ ℜ ℨ elsewhere, so they fall back and sit slightly lighter than the letters around them. In a word like “Faith” the H is noticeable. Blackletter Bold has a complete alphabet, so it is the safer choice whenever your word contains one of those five.

Script Tattoo Font and Cursive Lettering

A script tattoo font is the other half of tattoo lettering — flowing, connected, used for names, dates and single words along a collarbone or forearm. The tool has four: fine Tattoo Script (ℱℴ𝓇ℯ𝓋ℯ𝓇), heavier Bold Script (𝓕𝓸𝓻𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻), and two italics for the fine-line look.

The fine script shares the same gap problem: B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R and lowercase e, g and o fall back to letterlike forms. Tattoo Fonts for Names

A name is short, so every letter is visible and one mismatched character stands out. Three rules make this straightforward:

• Check the letters first. If the name has a C, H, I, R or Z, Old English will render those five differently. Blackletter Bold or Bold Script avoids it entirely.
• Type the real name, not a placeholder. “Amelia” and “Christopher” behave very differently in the same style.
• Look at it small. A style that reads on a wide screen can close up at bio size, which is where most of these end up.

Memorial and Remembrance Tattoo Text

Memorial wording pairs a name with dates, and legibility matters more than decoration. The Memorial group keeps this restrained — Old English or script with a cross, an infinity mark or a plain rule, rather than a heavy emoji frame.

Keep the dates in plain digits. Styled numerals are harder to read at a glance and several sets are easy to confuse with one another, which is the last thing you want in a memorial line.

Cross, Rose and Dagger Symbols

Six groups pair lettering with the symbols that turn up most in tattoo work — crosses (✝ ☦ ✞ †), roses and vines (🌹 ❦ ⚘), stars and moons (★ ☾ ✦), hearts (♥ ❥ ∞), daggers and edge (🗡 ⚔ 💀 ⛓), and wings (🕊 ⊰ ⊱).

One practical difference: the plain-text symbols (✝ ★ ❦ ∞) take on the colour of the surrounding text, while the emoji ones (🌹 💀 🔥) always render in full colour and at emoji size. In a short bio line the emoji versions dominate; the text symbols sit alongside the lettering instead of competing with it.
